Very close to the top of my favorite golf trips is Arizona. I was told years ago, you can’t go wrong with Arizona golf and when you actually look into it, you know they are right, you can’t!

Arizona averages just over 329 days of sunshine each and every year and they have over 170 golf courses of both public and private.

What I really love about a golf trip to Arizona though is the desert. I mean, how many folks have played in a desert? The desert offers its own unique challenges and scenery for the golfer that cannot be found on any other golf course.

When the idea to build golf courses in the desert were first mooted it was agreed that as long as they didn’t interfere with the natural landscape they would be welcome. This blending in included not altering any flow of natural water so the courses really are in the desert.

During an Arizona golf game,  it is not unusual to find yourself on a golf course hitting around saguaros cacti, or playing past enormous Sonoran Desert boulders. The Barrel Cacti stand along the fairways which are much narrower than you will be used to playing on at your home golf course.

The Boulders is my favorite destination when in Arizona golfing. You find it nestled in the foothills near Scottsdale on 1,300 acres of stunning desert scenery.  There are two golf courses at The Boulders and both are championship standard.  When you tee off on the North Course, your view is of Black Mountain and the spectacular scenery of the desert foothills. This course has been a major success and it’s no wonder with 6,811 yards of unbelievable 72 par scenic beauty.

The Boulders second, known as the South Course offers 6,726 yards of rugged desert beauty through it’s 18 holes of par of 71. Many agree with me that it is the South course that is the more scenic of the two as you will play right up to the boulder piles.
