If you are looking for a present for a golfer, then you can’t go far wrong with choosing a top store’s gift voucher. But, is this just the easy way out or what your receiver would really prefer?

Unless you know your golfer well, you can’t really be certain what they would prefer out of the myriad of golfing equipment that there is on the market right now. What looks to you to be an excellent training aid, they might hate, never used and looking for an excuse to give them away.

There might also be a piece of equipment or a training aid that they really want and are maybe saving up for. This is where giving a golf gift voucher come in very useful.

Choose an online shop with plenty of ranges and buy a golf gift voucher from there. This will give maximum choice of potential equipment.

Best of all, by buying from an online shop they might even be able to email you the voucher. This is ideal if you are searching for a present and have left it rather late to buy it! Some shops will even email it to your benefactor - saving you that time and effort!

Another advantage of golf gift vouchers in an online store is that anything that is not spent in the first purchase automatically carries over to further purchases. There’s no receiving small vouchers or forefeiting small amounts of change. It’s like loading a prepaid card and having that to start the purchases off with.

Sometime gift vouchers can be seen as an easy way out. Instead of thinking of what to buy, you just choose a simple voucher. Instead of going out shopping and selecting a present, you just click on a website and buy a voucher.

Is this true with golf? With the complexities involved with golf, I have to say “no”. Even something as simple as picking a box of golf balls could go wrong, if you don’t know your golfer’s favourite choice. They might prefer distance over control balls and you could get the opposite. A regular golfer will know the feel of his, or her, favourite brand of golf ball and if you select a different brand it might not be quite to their standards. A good intentioned present, but it might end up sitting in the cupboard.

Choosing training aids and clubs is just as impossible. It could be that the person no longer feels the need for certain training aids or has already read about them and decided that they don’t want particular items. A club has to feel right, not just be the same club number. A mid range club of a different brand in the bag might not give the required difference in the selection of clubs.

On balance, buying your favourite golfer some gift vouchers is by far and above the best way of buying them a golfing present. Do it - they will really appreciate it!

A Public Golf Course Offers Everyone A Shared Goal

December 26th, 2008 Golf Trip Planning 0 Comment

Many golfers repeatedly claim that a bad day on the golf course beats the best day at work every time and very few will argue. Whether they are male or female, young or old the goal is all the same to come away from the golf course with a feeling of accomplishment. Not so much in having their lowest score ever recorded, but more for being able to get away from the worries of home and work and spend their concentration on the intricacies of the game of golf.

Pretentiousness aside, a public golf course gets considerably more play than private courses, requiring more maintenance and requires a grounds crew that understands what foot traffic and an abundance of divots can do to the condition of the fairways. Some of the better crews working at a public golf course can maintain the links to a condition that rivals the country clubs and a private golf course, without the added expense of membership.

It has also been said that the true measure of a person can be found on the golf course as their patience and integrity is often put to the test. How well a person reacts to difficult situations and well as those where decisions about doing the right thing are frequent on the golf course and others will be watching, albeit from a distance and often unknowingly.

Course Conditions Can Vary Greatly

Depending on the golf course being played, conditions such as the cut of the greens, the length of the fairway grass and the condition of the tee boxes can vary. While most people believe that private courses and country clubs will offer the best conditions, many times a public golf course will have superior conditions, surpassing some of the exclusive playing fields.

Most golfers are willing to pay slightly more to play on a public golf course that is in good condition, where some food may be offered and the employees make them feel like a welcome addition to their daily work instead of an intrusion. Many of these courses, especially those near popular vacation areas often offer some of the best golf available.

It is also recommended that, while playing the same golf course repeatedly allows people to become better at the game, to truly become a better golfer it will pay to visit different golf courses to see how well different angles and views can be determined in unfamiliar territory.

Custom Golf Clubs

As everyone with a keen interest in golf will have realized, playing the game well involves using several different kinds of golf clubs, and in fact, the more fastidious golfers are even known to pack as many as fourteen separate clubs in their golf bags. The idea of course is to ensure that the swing is kept constant while it is ok if distances achieved are variable;  though, the flight of the ball can be distinctive – depending on the golf club being used..

Although it may theoretically be possible to use a single golf club for each stroke played, it would be very inconvenient as the golfer would need to modify direction and speed for each swing. This is why using custom golf clubs for different purposes have become the custom and the main categories of such clubs include woods, irons, hybrids and putters.

The wedge is a special kind of golf club that looks like a golf iron but has an altogether different purpose and so is used only under special conditions. There are numerous brands to choose from and the more famous among them include names such as Spalding, and Callaway.

In case you are about to buy your first golf set, you need to be extra careful about the type of golf clubs you buy, and it will in fact make perfect sense to read reviews to help you judge the better options among different clubs from the less than satisfactory ones. A review would help you realize which features to look for in your golf club and it will also inform you about which features different brands are offering.

Another aspect to buying custom golf club sets is knowing which clubs are absolutely necessary and which you can do without. Most certainly, there should be a putter, a driver, three and five woods, and perhaps a three iron as well as nine iron and either a wedge or a two iron or some other combination of irons and wedges.

You need to know which are the best materials that help make a golf club perform better, and here again a golf club review will give you important leads to help you choose the best options. Some people even prefer buying a customized golf club set to ensure that nothing comes in the way of helping them to play the best golf possible.

A well chosen set of golf clubs will certainly play an important role in helping the golfer play to his optimum level.

I have never seen a golf course designed for beginners, though there may be some out there. I think this is something that needs to be done, because when you start playing golf for the very first time, you know you are going to exasperate almost every player on the course. If you don’t know what I mean, you must be good. No matter how much time you spend on the driving range or practicing your putts, you know that the first times you try out a real golf course it will take you a very long time simply to get through the first few holes.

You must have a lot of skill in order to play golf, and beginners golf can be a pain for everyone. The person learning can get frustrated really easily, and you know they are going to go through a lot of balls. The people on the course with them have to be patient. I know that my husband often runs off to play nine holes when he only has so much time. If there are beginners in the group preceeding you, you can be sure that it is going to take a long time before you get out of there.

If there were period just for beginners golf, or maybe there should be a schedule set aside for this purpose only. It wouldn’t have to be much, but perhaps a couple of hours on a day when the courses aren’t known to be crowded. In that caseThat way, those learning beginners golf could be on the course and take their lumps without having to watch impatient and more experienced players making faces at them because they are tired of waiting for them to move through. I have been there before, and I recall what it feels like to have four grown men in goofy pants making faces and yelling at you to hurry. They are an irritated lot.
