Golf Clubs
The golf clubs are one of the most important golf equipments. They are used to hit a golf ball. Each of the golf clubs are made up of a long shaft, which is a tapered tube that is usually made up of metal such as steel or graphite; a lance, or also called as grip, which help the player to hold the club better; and finally the club head, which is mainly responsible for hitting the ball.
There are basically three major types of golf clubs, known as the woods, irons and the putters. The club wood is a long distance club and it is used to play long shots, either from the tee or the fairway, and it drives the ball to a great distance. Woods were generally made using Persimmon wood, although presently they use a variety of materials like carbon fiber, or metals like steel or titanium. Irons are used for precision shots either from the fairway or from the rough. They have a short, flat angled face, and their shaft is shorter than that of a wood. They were made using cast iron, and hence were called as irons. Putters are mostly used when playing on the greens, but can also be used when playing from the bunkers or also for some approach shots. These putters are a special type of golf clubs, which have a loft that is not more than 10 degrees. It is designed in such a way that the ball can be easily rolled along on the grass from a certain point to the cup.
There are also certain other type of golf clubs called as the Wedges and the Hybrids. Wedges are the same as irons, but they will have a higher loft when compared to a 9 iron. There are mainly four types of wedges called as the pitching wedge, gap wedge, sand wedge and a lob wedge. These wedges are used for a variety of shots such as shots that are short- distance and at high- altitude, and require high accuracy. Hybrids are the type of golf clubs that are a cross between a wood and an iron and hence provide the required long distance of a wood as well as the familiar swing of an iron. These clubs are also referred to as “Rescues”.
